Pianola Flight Case

Flight Case For Pianola

Flight cases for keyboards come in all shapes and sizes due to the vast array of keyboards available from 9ft grand pianos to small portable electric pianos. Over the years 3D Cases have have designed and supplied flight cases for just about every major keyboard manufactures from small Moog synthesizers up to Steinway concert grand pianos and even a full blown pipe organ keyboard and pipes.

Then just when you think you have made every type of flight case for keyboards the phone rings a call from the one and only Rex Lawson, pianolist extraordinary who requires a flight for a concert in San Francisco.

Rex Lawson’s name is the world’s foremost exponent of the pianola and has given concerts in Europe and North America, in fact in no less than fifteen countries around the globe in the last thirty years, from Carnegie Hall to the Last Night of the Proms, with conductors from Pierre Boulez to Sir Andrew Davis. Rex has also broadcast on hundreds of occasions around the world and is well represented on both LP and CD.

Flight Case For Pianola

To measure the pianola for the flight case Rex had invited me in to his studio & workshop, which was an amazing Aladdin’s cave with a pianolas, a grand piano and even an large organ, many in state of being lovingly restored. This is not to mention his library walls of over ten thousand music rolls along with a beast of an antique machine with which to punch the encoded paper scrolls, one hole for each note, which by some magical wizardry had been adapted to allow a modern day computer to control it.

Someone once said ‘An evening with Rex Lawson, king of the British pianola, is always interesting, often fascinating, and never less than fun.’ – And I can confirm, day times are no different!

Rex loved  his flight case and dropped 3D Cases a mail saying ‘You have certainly done a brilliant job, the flight case is wonderful, and it is now in San Francisco and the combination of the professional flight case and my beard will make me look like an aging pop star! Eat your heart out, ZZ Top!

Flight Case For Single Marshall Head

Jim Marshall, who sadly died earlier this year was the force behind Marshall amplifiers which is one of the most popular flight cases we produced. Bands like AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Status Quo and many other ‘Rock’ bands who had lines of Marshall equipment behind them on stage have been customers for many years and between them have had flight cases for just about every model in the Marshall amplifier range.

Bands have also had many designs for their amp head flight cases, from single head cases to flight cases to hold six or more with the multiple head flight cases all being fitted with wheels.
Our flight cases are designed for professional use, protecting your equipment whilst touring the planet year after year and ensuring it continues to work gig after gig.

Fender Vibro-King Flight Case

Flight Case – Fender Vibro-King

Fender combination amp flight cases are one of the most popular combo amp flight cases we are asked to manufacture. The Fender Vibro-King flight case shown here is typical of combo case designs with the amp in the base of the case which has and a larger lift of lid. The lid of the case can also be used to stand the combo on to raise it off the stage.

Usually made from our 7mm flight case materials to keep the weight down whilst our ‘double angle’ keeps the case incredibly rigid with no flexing of the flight case even when it is open. The 3D method of flight case construction has allowed hundreds of major bands to tour the world many times over with there combo amp arriving in perfect working order night after night.

All our flight cases are available with a panel thickness of 7mm, 10mm or 13mm and are available in a wide choice of colours and finishes including glass reinforced polyester (GRP), Vameldeck or High Pressure Laminate (HPL) along with lightweight astraboard or the more expensive and strongest in our lightweight range consisting of an aluminium honeycomb with glass fibre skins.

UK Flight Case Manufacture

Flight Case Construction

3D Flight Cases take delivery of their new aluminium extrusions during this December, designed to make flight case construction stronger and lighter. Made from a high grade aluminium billet, once extruded each section is baked in an oven for 24 hours to increase the hardness up to an aircraft grade quality. This extra treatment ensures that during its life on the road it will not dent, snag or burr like conventional aluminium used in flight case manufacturing.

In total, 3D Flight Cases will take delivery of ten new flight case extrusions including sections for 7mm flight cases, 10mm flight cases and 13mm flight cases. Each includes the flight case edging ‘double leg ’ angle, which is designed to allow fixing rivets to pull through the outside aluminium, the case panel material and finally through an inside aluminium ensuring a secure fixing unlike a single leg angle. This extrusion also incorporates a large radius which not only makes it more comfortable to handle the case but also helps reducing burrs during use. Along with each section there is also a new male and female to allow secure lid closure. Finally there is a ‘Lid Maker’ extrusion designed to mate with the 7mm for producing even lighter and smaller cases where needed.

Continuing 3D’s investment in professional flight case design new corner braces and steel corners have been produced to suit the large radius of the aluminium angle.

Peli ISP2 Case

Peli Hardig ISP2 Cases

Shifting loose cargo can slow down your operations and threaten the mission with damaged freight so after acquiring Hardigg Industries, Peli Cases released the ISP2 (Inter-Stacking Pattern) series of shipping containers.

The new ISP2  containers from Peli virtually eliminate load movement with a unique Inter-Stacking Pattern (ISP). Designed to stay secure in transit, ISP2 Cases are engineered with 10x10cm squared pattern matching the lids with the base. The integrated Peli ISP2 containers squared design works in tandem to lock the cases together in a stack, permits an easy cross-stacking among all models and enhances their rotationally moulded polymer construction’s load bearing properties.

Hardigg Peli ISP2 Container

Standard features of the Hardigg ISP2 containers include an o-ring seal (to ensure that the case stays secure and watertight), reinforced corners and edges (15-20% thicker corners and edges for added protection), patented moulded-in metal inserts with recessed hardware and comfort grip high-impact polymer handles (for easy team lifting). The Peli Hardigg ISP2 case material is a proprietary polyethylene formula that achieves the optimum balance of light weight, panel rigidity and durability.

These flight cases are optimised for most known pallet sizes including the Standard Euro Pallet, the NATO Pallet and 463L Master Pallet, the Peli Hardigg ISP2 containers are available in 64 different case sizes, from 0,018 to 0,576 cubic metres of storage, that can be combined to maximize the total volume of available space in each pallet.

This Peli IPS2 case system allows taller loads that won’t shift or become loose from turbulent air, high seas or dilapidated road conditions.

Flight Case Road Trunk

Flight Case Trunk

The most popular and versatile flight case in the world, the standard flight case road trunk. The 3D Flight Cases version of their MUT (Multi Use Trunk) is built to a standard truck pack with a size that offers 4 across stacking in a standard articulated trailer and available as standard in lengths of 1200mm, 900mm and 600mm with other sizes to order.

Flight Case

The standard MUT flight case can be constructed with either 7mm, 10mm or 13mm case panels, comes as standard with hinged lid, 4 heavy duty castors and 4 heavy duty recessed snap back handle.

In addition, if air freight is going to be the standard method of transport a honeycomb panel can be used. This is constructed using an aluminum honeycomb with a glass fibre woven mat heat and pressure laminated to each side. This produces a lightweight and incredibly strong rigid panel as used in aircraft flooring, motorsport and in the new generation of train and coach production,  resulting in a weight saving of 40% in the overall flight case weight.

Internally MUT flight case can be foam lined, carpeted or painted. In addition this flight case can be supplied with fixed or movable partitions, again foamed, carpeted or painted.

Optional extra’s include additional handles, stacking dishes, label dishes, extra wheels, internal trays etc etc.
